Kevin Rowsome visited the Ceol Pipes workshop in Achill on Saturday April 14th along with Tomás MacUileagóid, a highly respected Harp-maker based in Dublin. Tomás was checking progress on his practice set of uilleann pipes, including a 3-keyed chanter, which is due for delivery within a few weeks.
Kevin Rowsome is the fifth generation of pipers from the Rowsome uilleann piping dynasty. The uilleann pipes that I make are based largely on a set that were made in 1924 by Kevin’s great-grandfather, William Rowsome.
It was fitting that Kevin got to test-drive my first completed set of drones, along with a 4-keyed chanter made in 2011. A video of his wonderful playing can be seen in the Audio & Video section of this website.
